IDBS E-WorkBook for Biology

Sharing & Reporting Data Software for Biology

See a Demonstration

Registration and data management across the biologic R&D life cycle is complex. E-WorkBook Biology is built upon the foundation of The E-WorkBook platform and provides a simple and intuitive interface to allow biologists to display peptide or nucleotide sequences, draw complex biological molecules in HELM format, and register these entities.

This capability is complementary to the existing advanced biological production and bioanalysis solutions provided by E-WorkBook, the world’s leading biology research platform.

The complexity and size of such molecules makes rendering these in small-molecule or sequence format overwhelmingly complex. The Hierarchical Editing Language for Macromolecules (HELM) standard is fast becoming the adopted convention for representing complex macromolecules, such as peptides, nucleotides, and antibodies, which are often chemically modified as conjugates or are derived from unnatural synthetic building blocks.

Our strategic partnership with ChemAxon™ provides access to world-leading representation of chemical and biological molecules, include HELM rendering components and biologically-aware indexing technology.

Using The E-WorkBook Cloud in combination with the Biology capabilities enables users to view important plasmid sequences and to create, register and search for novel biomolecular entities within your business, providing full visibility.

More about E-WorkBook Biology

E-WorkBook Biology supports the import of existing sequence files in common formats, such as GenBank, GenPept, FASTA and HELM, supporting the display of both linear and cyclic sequences and associated metadata such as species information and annotated gene and exon sequences. Files in the plasmid renderer can be easily downloaded for editing in a third-party tool, such as VectorNTI™.

For rendering of complex peptides and nucleotides, a user may prefer to visualize these in the HELM editor. This feature rich editor supports the display of HELM v1 and v2 formats, along with the free-hand drawing of sequences. The in-built library of amino acids, nucleic acids, linkers and sugars can be extended to include custom synthetic derivatives of these. Further chemical moieties such as protecting groups or terminal endcaps can be described, along with functional items such as linkers or colloidal gold particles.

The visualization of the macromolecule is intuitive – simply clicking on a monomer in the sequence displays the corresponding chemical structure in an annotation panel. Longer sequences of the chain of less interest can be collapsed into a domain for better on-screen representation.

The administrator-configurable ‘form for registration’ supports the capture of key metadata for each catalog-controlled item type i.e. antibody, primer, protein etc., from where a unique registration identifier can be generated. The bio-registration system also provides a front-end interface to be able to search for entities, either by known compound ID, sub-sequence, or by attribute e.g. name, species or accession number.
