IDBS Polar was chosen to help teams capture, structure and interrogate their key data from a single source of truth, thereby making their collaboration more efficient.

The challenge

PharmaEssentia, a publicly listed Taiwanese company, opened a new Innovation Research Center (PIRC) in Boston last year. The new R&D team at PIRC wanted an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) solution to help the collaboration between their team and the R&D team headquartered in Taipei (Taiwan), who were using paper to record all their experimental data.

The solution

The IDBS Polar platform was selected over the alternatives for its superior functionality beyond traditional ELN offerings, IDBS’ broad customer base and customer support offering, as well as the ability to support languages like Mandarin. Initially, the team in Taipei was cautious about switching from paper to a digital solution, but after receiving training and seeing demos of Polar, they are excited about adopting it.

Furthermore, the PharmaEssentia team was really pleased with their experience with IDBS and the flexibility of the sales process.

The outcome

Polar will be implemented first in the Boston facility with initially 15 and then up to 25 users. The Taipei-based R&D team will follow with the onboarding of about 65 users who will be seamlessly and securely connected to the Polar implementation in Boston.

IDBS Polar was chosen for the primary purpose of helping both teams capture, structure and interrogate their key data from a single source of truth, thereby making their collaboration more efficient. Once all users are onboarded, they would like to explore other functionalities, such as Inventory which dynamically manages inventory from an experimental workflow, and further leverage the other benefits that Polar offers such as a single chain of custody for their data, learning from successful/failed experiments and using the AI/ML analytics functionality.

The IDBS difference

  • Functionality beyond traditional ELN solutions
  • Multi-language capability, including Mandarin
  • Dynamic inventory management of lab equipment, materials and samples directly to and from experimental workflows
  • Scope to expand to AI/ML analytics and reporting
  • Ongoing, personalized customer support
