The E-WorkBook SCIEX Analyst™ Integration

Info Sheet

The E-WorkBook platform is designed for enterprise deployment.

Researchers expect that data can be transferred between systems, to reduce the overhead of transcription and to ensure consistency and quality. With E-WorkBook Integrations, IDBS provides frameworks to seamlessly connect the data management platform with your research systems, leveraging feature-rich APIs and extension points to facilitate integration to instruments and third-party data systems.

E-WorkBook supports integration to the SCIEX Analyst™ LC/MS software. This provides users with an easy way to seamlessly upload samples for execution and to retrieve results information from Analyst™, ensuring faster turnaround with increased data compliance.

How is the tool used in practice?

SCIEX LC/MS instruments with AnalystTM control software are often found in bioanalytical, forensic, environmental and food & beverage environments, where they are used for the quantification of substances.

Manually designing and entering lengthy sample lists into the instrument control software is cumbersome and can introduce errors. Sample lists with replicates and blanks can be created in an E-WorkBook template, as part of an experimental workflow, and be seamlessly uploaded to Analyst™ for execution.

Equally, the analysis of sample results can be automated by bulk-importing the peak lists into an E-WorkBook template, which can be configured to process the data with concurrent calculations and statistical analysis, to plot linear/curve-fit models, to perform sample comparison and to highlight deviations.

As the export and import of data is exchanged directly between applications, there is no indirect transfer e.g. via CSV file. This makes it more compliant and so QA/QC auditing in validated environments is much easier.

Managing disparate results for assays over time makes it difficult to track and link data. As part of a workflow, results can be written to a database, enabling a user to quickly query for results, either by sample, study ID or to perform trend analysis for assay performance.

How does it work?

The E-WorkBook templates are designed to support laboratory workflows that enable the user to define the experimental and sample metadata, with requisite order of samples, standards, blanks and replicate samples for execution.

After the runs are completed, the data can be transferred in bulk to the E-WorkBook template for analysis. Instructions within the spreadsheet panel are available to trigger the export and import process.

How is it deployed?

The SCIEX Analyst™ integration components are installed on the customer network.

The integration is configured using administrator editable configuration files, which contain options to define authentication, default instance/project names and the mapping of the field names in Analyst™ to the correspondingE-WorkBook template headers.

What services/software does IDBS provide?

The IDBS Professional Services team will install, configure and test the software integration on the customer site, configuringthe integration components and templates for exchange of sequences.

What does the customer need to provide?

  • Availability of the system administrators who manage the E-WorkBook instance (if on-premise) and the SCIEX Analyst™ system
  • GxP validation of the integration component is to be addressed by the PQ process
