The Bioprocessing Summit 2018: Our thoughts from Boston
In August we attended The BioProcessing Summit 2018 in Boston.
The event saw more than 1,000 bioprocess professionals and business leaders from around the globe gather to share practical ideas and solutions on tackling today’s bioprocess challenges.
Now in its tenth year, The BioProcessing Summit is a week-long programme supporting the discussion of bioprocessing topics including upstream and downstream processing, analytical development and quality, formulation and stability, cell and gene therapy production, and manufacturing.
After more than a decade of working with world-class bioprocess organizations, we have seen, first hand, the challenges created by managing highly complex development environments with an outdated foundation of paper, Excel and manual processes – and it was exciting to hear some of these issues and possible solutions being discussed at the summit.
Throughout the event’s seminars and training courses, we noticed a common talking point of how the bioprocessing industry is increasingly turning to the cloud to help address some of these challenges.
The key trends
Over the course of the week, we noticed three key trends being discussed:
- Machine learning, data analytics, and modeling for biopharmaceuticals
- End-to-end knowledge management, digitizing and aggregating data from multiple sources to one single source of truth
- Where AI meets bioprocessing
Changing the lab for the better
We also had a great time catching up with IDBS customers at the event – many of whom stopped by to let us know how much they are enjoying using our software.
In fact, five different people from one customer came to tell us, all on separate occasions, how we have helped change their ‘day-to-day in the lab for the better’, which was great to hear!
Want to get in on the conversation?
In October, we will be hosting i3, our premier annual customer event in Austin, TX, where we bring together science, IT and R&D business leaders to share ideas, create new insights and advance innovation!
With plenty of demonstrations, hands-on workshops, networking and Q&A opportunities, i3 aims to provide a platform for our customers to learn, share and network with IDBS and with each other. We’d love to meet you there!
