Managing Bioprocess Data is Challenging, But What Does the Future Look Like?

For R&D organizations, data is the new GOLD.

Historically, data has been captured in silos, so harnessing the power of data can be tricky – particularly for bioprocess organizations.

Bioprocess data tends to be far more contextually rich than other sectors, with a multitude of factors all working in conjunction. And, when compared to other industries, there’s also a greater diversity of work and a wider variety of tools – meaning there’s a lot less standardization, too. The end result? Trying to tie all that data together, particularly as the volumes grow, can be pretty complex.

Organizations need the ability to adapt to process changes and parameters, but this isn’t supported effectively by the rigid data management structures of old, where organizations previously focused on a specific set of needs or demands: ‘for research we need an ELN’ and ‘for our analytical group we need a LIMS’, for example.

When you have these individual silos, it becomes hard to do anything with it. So now, companies are increasingly looking towards more holistic solutions, as they realise that all data is part of the same, bigger picture.

At IDBS, we provide flexible solutions that can capture data, with all of the necessary contextual information, and then tie it together, using different sources around your organization. With integration capabilities, The E-WorkBook Cloud can fit into the wider informatics system and other bespoke systems, and, with our individual modules, we have ensured that different groups of people, like chemists and biologists, are both able to use the same system.
