IDBS to Speak at Bio-IT World Conference & Expo 2011

Harnessing Technology to Leverage Data and Transform Medicine

The 10th annual Bio-IT World Conference brings together life sciences, pharmaceutical, clinical, healthcare, and IT professionals from around the world and provides a forum for sharing information and discussing the enabling technologies that are driving biomedical research and the drug development process.

Dr. Paul Denny-Gouldson, VP Translational Medicine and Head of IDBS Global Healthcare Unit, will present a session entitled, ‘Converting Data Overload into Data Assets: The Enabling Role of High Context Data Management for R&D’. He will discuss how the agile progression from target to candidate requires the orchestration of diverse scientific disciplines, each generators and consumers of data, and will highlight how instant access across this entire data landscape is now a must-have capability for speeding innovative products to market.

In addition, IDBS customer, Mick Correll, Associate Director, Center for Cancer Computational Biology, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, will be speaking on a revolutionary new way to support collaborative research in the genetics of chronic lung disease. His session, ‘Lung Genomics Research Consortium: Building a Translational Research Portal to Improve the Molecular Understanding of Lung Disease’, will discuss how a portal addresses many needs, including supporting uploading of large experimental data sets, assessing available samples and their characteristics, sampling and tracking data across a distributed consortium, and applying sophisticated and automated analytical tools. Attendees will learn about the project requirements, solution design, and commercial and open source tools that were utilized to construct the system.

Bio-IT World will be held April 12-14 at the World Trade Center in Boston. Mr. Correll will speak on Wednesday, April 13, at 11:30 am. Dr. Denny-Gouldson will speak on Wednesday, April 13, at 2:45 pm, and will chair that afternoon’s Translational Informatics and Knowledge Management theme.
